Black Forest gateau -
come and celebrate with me
Celebrations of important life events, such as birthdays, weddings, christenings or other anniversaries, in my family would not be complete without this centre piece: a Black Forest gateau! And, needless to say, this is with REAL morello (sour) cherries, REAL cream, and, importantly, REAL schnapps. The schnapps is made by one of my sisters’ father-in-law, using cherries from his own orchards. It is unbeatable.
And this Special Class also celebrates some exciting milestones:
- my 100th baking class and
- my 60th birthday
Come and celebrate these wonderful milestones with me by creating your own Black Forest gateau! You will make a beautifully intense dark chocolate sponge. You will also use the best Adelaide Hills morello cherries and oh-so flavoursome cherry schnaps from my family in Germany to create the delicious cherry filling. We will then assemble the gateau using fresh cream, just enough to underline the delicate balance of flavours, and decorate it with toasted flaked almonds, cream and cherries, to create an authentic version of one of the most famous German celebration cakes. And did I say that this gateau is also GLUTEN-FREE? It is!!!
We will start the class around our kitchen table, and I will take you through the recipe step-by-step, before you roll up your sleeves and start creating! We will also share a light lunch during the class (a cheese and fruit platter), and you will, of course, take your own creation home, so you can share it with your family or friends.
Apart from being fun, the class is designed to provide you with the skills and confidence to replicate the recipe at home. I also keep this class very small (with a maximum of 4 participants), so that there is plenty of opportunity for questions and conversations to maximise your learning experience.
The duration of the class is approx. 4 - 4 1/2 hours. The class is suitable for beginners as well as those seeking to expand their repertoire.
